A wedding DJ has the power to make your wedding reception great, but how do you ensure that you won’t get the opposite effect? There are several things to take into consideration when choosing the DJ that will make your day special and memorable.
1. Show Him Who’s boss!
There is nothing worse than getting stuck with music that you don’t want to hear. When choosing your DJ, make sure that he/she knows what YOU want on YOUR day. Your playlist should contain the songs/artists that you want to hear, but should also feature a list of songs/artists that you don’t want to hear. Make sure that you not only get the music you want, but ensure that you don’t get music you hate too! A DJ wants to please the crowd, not the couple, so make sure the DJ you choose plays your preferences!
2. Don’t Be Late!
When sending the DJ your playlist, make sure you leave a god amount of time to get organised! A couple of months is a good amount of time to make sure that the DJ will be fully prepared, have all the music you want, and have a full setup plan on the day. Make sure your DJ knows where the venue is and what space he has; it is crucial that your DJ knows what he has to work with. Punctuality can be a main factor into making your reception amazing.
3. Background Check!
When choosing your DJ, make sure you look him/her up! If the DJ is well known, make sure to look at reviews online. Customer testimonials often reveal much about the DJ! For example, find out from other people if your DJ is flexible and polite, this will ensure you get the service you want. Don’t forget to compare prices with other DJs too! Sometimes paying more for better service can be a good thing; don’t be scared to lash out on your special day, it only happens once!
Presentation is key when choosing a DJ. Always consider how he dresses, talks, and whether he is tidy or not! You want your DJ to fit in with the formal attire of the day. Make sure your DJ knows what he’s doing, and is tidy at the same time. The DJ has to be up to par with all OHS requirements. (E.g. Electrical Safety, etc.) Having long cords running across the dance floor not only looks unprofessional, but can be dangerous too.
5. Keep It Current!
Make sure that the DJ you choose has a wide variety of music. Try to find a DJ that has music that you like, but is current and popular. If a DJ can give you up to date and well known music that you love, AND please the crowd on top of it all, you can bet that everyone will walk away happy and satisfied.
Hopefully these tips will help you find the DJ that will make your day one to remember!
